Rolling Dirt Circus of the Apocalypse

The carousel is a unique piece of burning man art, and much loved everywhere she goes. We bring a special blend of joy, irreverence, and carefree honesty to the playa. Our mission is to set people free to have a good time, to stop thinking and just enjoy the experience of the moment, to express themselves as only they can. The ship is a special place - graceful & serene on a sunrise tour, sexy, sweaty, and burning at night. Open to all, any time of the day. We stop for anyone, for everyone, we demand you get on! It's an equal opportunity artcar,
a place for all to find freedom.

About Us

The passion project of Hyde Made

the ship is ever evolving and growing. Partially funded by Burning Man in 2007, our own fundraisers and Hyde's maxed out credit cards the original was lovingly built in 8 manic weeks outside of Brooklyn NY. Assembling it on the playa in 2007 nearly killed us all so in 2012 it was rebuilt to be a much more sustainable piece, giving up size for portability. In 2018 we celebrated our "10th" year in the dust and have no intentions of stopping!

We come to participate, to enable, to spread magic. We're always up for impromptu celebrations and performances. So if you've got a show, flag us down, we'll do it up. We've DJd art installations - provided sound reinforcement for mime shows - hosted weddings - fashion shoots - given wheelchair burners art tours (we've got a ramp) - everything goes. Sometimes we'll even drive you home. Doesn't hurt to ask!

Our Ship

Our ship is completely custom,

designed and built specifically to sail the playa sea. It's detail is is
3 dimensional - there is no pretend, it's real. The rigging, the mechanics, every bolt serves a purpose. There are elements of whimsy, and fancy, but all in careful balance with raw functionality, ropes and cables balancing steel masts and crosstrees. It's beautiful, and so satisfyingly dynamic yet strong as it bounces and weaves across the desert.

The horses are wonderful - stark, ethereal, but up for anything - you can load 'em up with as many people as will fit. You can stand on them, dance on them, they're powerful!

ship

And if you ever get bored with going up and down you can climb up on the catwalk and relax, take in the sights while the ship sways beneath. String a hammock while you're at it!

Or climb out on one of the horse-poles and go up and down 17' off the ground. And if you're braver yet, shimmy up the main masts and get a real look around.

Climb down the ladder or slide down the ropes to the deck - you can experience the ship on your terms. If you're comfortable, we're comfortable, get your groove on. But if you can't make it up the rickety, scary, twisty log-chain ladder, you better just find a pillow on the stage and chill out! It's all good.

The Team

It's a work for and of many

it has been built through thousands of volunteer hours, paid for by thousands of volunteer dollars. Truly, by the people, for the people. And we want to bring it back for more!
